NIMS 3.0 is the first new version in nearly a decade; it's the first version not drafted under duress, it's the first version signed by the FEMA Administrator and, as it should be, it's by far and away FEMA's best work. So why are leaders of healthcare coalitions– the sub grantees of the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) cooperative agreement– far less interested than emergency managers and public health preparedness pros? Maybe it's because a healthcare coalition has more in common with Walmart than with them.

FEMA Publishes NIMS 3.0

On October 17th, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) published National Incident Management System (NIMS), Third Edition. Released fifteen months after the public draft, NIMS 3.0 is the first update of the Nation's incident management system since March of 2008. And at 132 pages it weighs in nearly 40 pages lighter than NIMS 2.0, making it more efficient, nimble. Right?

ASPR, CDC: $850 Million to HPP, PHEP

On February 3, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released the combined Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the 2017-2018 Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) and Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program (PHEP) cooperative agreements. The sixty-two potential awardees have until April 4th to submit completed applications.

Congress Sends $44,250,000 To PHEP

On September 29, 2016, the President signed the Zika Response and Preparedness Act, which includes restoration of $44,250,000 to the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Program redirected to fight Zika.

The funding will be available to the states as soon as possible, stated a source at the CDC.
